I really loved this book. I thought it was a bit on the slow side in the first couple of chapters but after that it really takes off . It seems to be one problem solved another happens. I had my kindle propped in front of me for two days. I just couldn't be sure how it was going to end. I only knew how I wanted it to end. This is not your usual fluffy novel but it really has a story to tell. I have recommended it to my family already. Do yourself a favor and read a romance that doesn't insult your intelligence.

Another wonderful book by Susan Wiggs with great characters and plot. Kept me centered on the book and hard to put down.
I truely loved reading this book.
This is the sequel to The Charm School and I found it better than it's prequel. I was swept away by the romance, the challenges of taming a mad horse, and the frustration of dealing with a child who was so depressed by his mother's death that he refuses to speak. I couldn't put the book down! I finished it in record time. This is one of the best works by Susan Wiggs. Nothing I've read after this could even compare.
I must say THE HORSEMASTERS DAUGHTER was THE best book i have read from Susan Wiggs. I just loved how Eliza was a carefree, outspoken and beautiful girl filled with so much love to offer. She was able to shape Hunter into a wonderful father, after going through so many things herself in life. Hunter was very male and brash but learned to love and trust again with the help and support from Eliza and the love that his children always gave him no matter what state he was in. Beautiful book! Would definitely recommended. But you must read THE CHARM SCHOOL first. That book too was brilliant. Susan Wiggs is the best!
For those who love animals and especially horses, this is the book for you! I think you will love this story.
this is the first historical romance I read years ago so had to purchase as since that time I have read thousands. Love the Regency period in particular. This is in the US and is a quaint story

Very likeable heroine, Eliza. Hunter was OK as the love interest, but not steamy hot. The time on the island was my favorite part of the book because it reminded me of some of my favorite books in my youth like ISLAND STALLION by walter farley, DOCTOR DOLLITTLE, and a tiny bit of SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON. I enjoyed her talking to the animals and relating to them, and I enjoyed the way he responded to her. The horse "Finn" was great as he came around to Eliza. Eliza was a genuine character, but Hunter wasn't too compelling.

But the rest of the book was OK. A nice little mystery with Blue was resolved strangely indeed. And the matter of Eliza's parentage was really a quick wrap-up. The ending was decent and left me wanting a sequel in California.
I found the Horsemaster's Daughter wonderfully entertaining. The horse may represent both main characters in some respects. It is the type of book that makes you think beyond the story line, although that is enough to keep a reader interested. But for those who like to analyze a little this story is full of symbolism.
If you want an interesting book that is not a standard romance with the standard progression of the story, blah blah (!!) you will find this book wonderfully interesting with twists the reader does not expect, and sometimes cheering for the main characters, who are so real but flawed, just like most of us.
