This book is better than the first ☺.

So this book seems to start a couple of weeks after the first book. Jenna and Leander are married and Jenna is settling into her role as Queen.

Morgan is charged with treason for her part in what happened at the end of book one. She is going to be executed. Remember though that Morgan put into action the betrayal before she really got to know Jenna, before she knew that Jenna was Queen. It is no excuse for what she did but it does make you feel a little more for her. Jenna still considers Morgan a friend and wants to give her a chance to live...

Jenna makes Morgan a deal. Morgan has two weeks to find the leader of the organization that tried to kill Jenna. If she can find the organization...she gets a full pardon, if she doesn't she dies.

"Time is a merciless thief."

Now Leander is not going to send her off alone so he sends an assassin with her...Xander. Xander is a professional killer and is assigned to help Morgan with her task but if she fails...he is the one that is going to kill her. He is so good at what he does...his torso is covered with tally marks (one for every person he has killed). He is a powerful Ikati.

Now at first, Xander and Morgan loathe each other. Morgan is a bit afraid of him...I mean he is a killer that is assigned to kill her...it doesn't matter that he is totally HOT!! Xander finds Morgan amusing...very different than any other female that he has been around.

They spend time together, challenge each other, out wit each other, start to feel...

Morgan of course has only wanted freedom, I mean that is why she did what she did in the first place...she is scared of these feelings that she has...

"Love, she had learned, was its own kind of prison. With chains and locks invisible but just as real and unyielding as those of steel."

Xander gets hurt...Morgan comes to the rescue, earning the respect of his fellow assassins...

"The assassin's code. Cross one, cross us all. Kill one, kill us all. Love one..." He cleared his throat. "Love us all."

Morgan goes into heat, cause you know she is a panther...Xander is more than willing to "help" and his "help" is super hot!!

They agree to be together physically just while she is in heat and then go back to being assassin and prey after...even though they both feel for each other but neither one of them wants to admit it.

There is just so much at stake...will she find the leader?? If not, can he do what he was charged with and kill her?? She would rather die than live without being free...

"One should die proudly when it is no longer possible to live proudly"

"I'd rather die on my feet than live on me knees..."

Can they figure out their lives together?? Good ending but did leave an opening for book 3!!

If I had reviewed the first book in the Night Prowler series Shadows Edge,I would have given it 5 stars. This book,
Edge of Oblivion, I would give 6 stars to if I could. It was just that good. The story was so imaginative when it came to the world of the Ikati that the reader will feel like they are a part of it. I won't go deep into the plot since several other reviewers have done so already. The romance between Morgan and Xander is the heart of the story and Rome is the setting. I have never been there but after reading this I want to go! The introduction of Eliana and D into the story is setting up for the next book hopefully. I loved the characters and can't wait to read the next one in this series.There is plenty of action and scary moments but the romance was the main ingredient. The author definitely knows how to tell a good story. It would be a good idea to read the first book in the series before reading this one. Enjoy!
This is an author that I am hooked on! I thought that I had written a review months ago when I finished this novel and the other one. I just noticed I had not and wanted to give J.T. her deserved FIVE STARS!!! I have already pre-ordered the 3rd in the series and see that she has finished the 4th and it is going to the publisher's! She writes lyrically but to the point which is a difficult task. Her imagination is incredible. I bought the first one when it was free or .99. I have author friends who do not believe in putting their books out for free. Well, in this case and others, by discounting the one of her works, she has made a fan for all her books and I will purchase them as they come out! Bravo!!!!!!!!
This author's writing is sheer perfection. The words flow like fluid as she weaves her lyrical tale of the Ikati shape shifters. You are captured from the beginning and enthralled until the end, the suspense is electrifying. These are the best shape shifters I've read yet. I don't know which book I like more the first or the second, they are both fantastic. Morgan, the heroine, was labeled a traitor to her race in book one and we hated her but in this book we come to understand the motivations that led to her fall from grace and feel her regrets. There is such a depth to the character of Xander, the assassin, and hero. You can't help but like and empathize with him. The chemistry between the two jumps off the page but the romance does not overpower the storyline. There is danger and a mystery to be solved and much that leads to its resolution. Mystery, romance and suspense are keys to a good novel and these books have all three. The history of the characters and the description of the world they live in are so vivid to the reader. All the characters are well developed. I like the way the author sets up the characters for the next book without interfering with the ending of this story, a nice blend of ending and beginning. Upon finishing you are left with such a desire for more of these stories, you will miss these characters. I am glad there are more books to come. Highly recommend.
